Mavericks No More…

I did a spot late this afternoon on MSNBC debating the perceived maverick nature of the McCain/Palin ‘08 ticket. Let’s just say this: it’s a load of crap.

John McCain is a creature of Washington. He is Washington - he personifies the mess that we face in this country and his support of George W. Bush nearly 90% of the time has helped to drive our economy and our foreign policy into the ditch that we find ourselves in today.

John McCain is the problem, not the solution!

As far as Sarah Palin goes, she is a change candidate, in that she is the first female VP nominee in Republican Party history. I don’t want to discount that accomplishment - I applaud her for that.

However, that is where the change stops. She’s completely anti-change when it comes to important issues that will be paramount over the coming years. She was for the “Bridge to Nowhere” before she was against (she likes her pork), she doesn’t believe in man-made global warming, she would turn the clock back nearly 30 years on the rights of women to make choices about their health and well being, she has no plans for health care reform and to cover the nearly 50 million uninsured Americans, she’s never indicated any stance on foreign policy or international diplomacy, and the list goes on and on. Yes, she’s new and exciting, but her policies are like dinosaurs - old and extinct. On top of all of this, the McCain campaign believes it’s okay to shield her from the press - the very people in this country whose job it is to ask tough questions of our elected officials and find out where they come down on issues.

Here’s the MSNBC clip:

Going Back In Time

Lieberman is a joke-of-a-guy!

“As far as I’m concerned he (Senator Obama) is a ‘Baruch,’ which means a blessing. He is a blessing to the United States Senate, to America, and to our shared hopes for better, safer tomorrows for all our families…”

DoubleSpeak On MSNBC

My brother and I did a quick spot together on MSNBC this afternoon. Check it out.

John McCain And Iraq

John McCain is running as someone who stood up to President Bush on the Iraq War. He has attempted to run as an independent maverick, often times referring to himself as a critic of the Bush administration’s handling on the war. Well, this video picks that argument apart statement-by-statement. It is true that McCain has noted his frustration on the implementation of the war over the past six years, but as the video record shows, he never really stood up against Bush & Company.

I have had many debates over the past couple months with some very smart people who support John McCain and they have tried to justify their support by saying that Barack Obama doesn’t have the judgment yet to be President of the United States. Well, you want to talk about judgment…watch this video. The evidence could not be clearer.

“Yes We Can”

DoubleSpeak’s good friend Ari Melber wrote a piece over at The Nation about a “star-studded” video just released on the interwebs.

Ari writes:

On Saturday, YouTuber user “WeCan08″ uploaded “Yes We Can,” a music video for a new Obama ballad by the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am and director Jesse Dylan, Bob Dylan’s son. The “song” was essentially written by Barack Obama, since the lyrics are adapted from his “Yes We Can” speech after the New Hampshire primary. That speech, of course, was inspired by Cesar Chavez’s motto for a United Farm Workers hunger strike in 1972. Excerpts of Obama play throughout the video, with accompaniment from stars like John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Common, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Scarlett Johansson, Tatyana Ali and Nick Cannon. The video was first reported by ABC News, which interviewed the creators.

There’s no telling if this video will catch on, but musicians have turned political speeches into popular songs before. The most famous example is Haile Selassie’s 1963 address to the UN, which Bob Marley put to music in the song “War.”

If you haven’t had a chance to see the video, you have to take a look. Pretty powerful stuff.

Another GOP Candidate Flip Flopper

YouTube is proving to be very troubling for some GOP candidates who continue to “out” their true political stances by way of old video footage of, well, themselves contradicting the positions they currently hold.

We’ve seen it with Governor Mitt Romeny and his positions on abortion and other social issues.

Today’s GOP candidate caught in the YouTube cross-hairs is former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

This video is from a Women’s Coalition for Giuliani event in 1989…Enjoy…

Go Home Mike…

Check out this YouTube video of Ohio Senator Mike DeWine (R) greeting the voters at a campaign stop in Lorain County.

Sen. DeWine’s rubber stamp has just about dried out. It looks like Rep. Sherrod Brown (D) will defeat him on November 7th. The polls for Rep. Brown look good!

This is what a campaign with momentum looks like in the final days!
