With a Little Help from His Friends

Can you feel the Joementum? Can you?

Large-mouthed Democratic Senator from Connecticut is getting such much needed assistance from some colleagues in the United States Senate.

Some of the more liberal members of the Senate caucus like Barbara Boxer and Joe Biden are teaming up with Joe to help convince Connecticut primary voters that November should be a Joemember to remember. Weird.

From the AP/WaPo:

WASHINGTON — Embattled Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman is getting a little help from his Senate friends as he tries to fend off an anti-Iraq war challenger in an intraparty fight.

Sens. Joe Biden of Delaware, Barbara Boxer of California and Ken Salazar of Colorado plan to campaign in Connecticut for Lieberman between now and the Aug. 8 primary. Their goal is to reassure the party faithful of the three-term senator’s loyalty to Democratic causes, including women’s issues, labor and the environment.

“It will be a reminder to voters of the work he’s done on progressive issues,” Lieberman spokeswoman Marion Steinfels said Wednesday. “Some of his colleagues wanted to come here and campaign for him on issues that matter to him and them.”

The rush of support from his Senate colleagues comes two days after Lieberman, the party’s 2000 vice presidential nominee, surprised Democrats by announcing that he would start collecting signatures for an independent campaign if he loses the primary.

It seems that in all his days in the U.S. Senate, Joe has lost sight of the fact that it’s not about Joe, it’s about the process. If he truly respected the party, the process, and the voters, he’d run hard and if his constituents deem him unfit for command, he should step aside.

Check out this commentary from Ari Melber, DoubleSpeak contributor and Huffingtonpost.com writer regarding Joe’s “independent” streak.

Update: Senator John Kerry (D-MA) will support whichever candidate wins the CT primary.

Update II: Senator Ken Salazar (D-CO) will support Sen. Lieberman, even if he loses the August primary.

Sen. Joe Lieberman Will Begin Collecting Signatures

for a place on the November CT ballot as an “independent Democrat,” he announced today. We’re not really sure what that means. If Ned Lamont wins the primary, does the DSCC?

New Ad for Ned Lamont

You knew it was coming and here it is! Check out the new Ned Lamont ad featuring Sen. Joe Lieberman morphing into George Bush’s face at the end of the ad. It’s clever and demonstrates the point.

Compare this ad with Joe Lieberman’s recent wacky bear ad which, actually, made no sense to me at all.

Also, read Taegan Goodard’s interview with Dick Morris to find out why Joe Lieberman may just lose his seat in the United States Senate.

“I think Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) will lose the primary and will be so crippled by the defeat and Ned Lamont (D) so empowered, that he will lose the general election as an independent. Sen. Jacob Javits (R-NY), in 1980, could have avoided defeat by not fighting the Republican Primary against Sen. Al D’Amato (R-NY) and running as an independent. But D’Amato was so empowered by the primary win and Javits so disempowered that he won the general election with Javits running a poor third.

Democrat Doug Duncan

will announce today that he is dropping out of the race for Governor of Maryland. Duncan has faced an uphill battle against Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley. Duncan is apparently sighting health reasons for his withdrawal…more details to come…
