Thursday’s Quote

“We have two factions of media in Boston. On the one hand, we have the Hillary-loving, Ted Kennedy apologists. And on the other, we have the liberals.”

-Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA), speaking at the annual Robert L. Bartley dinner hosted by the American Spectator

Twelve Hours and Counting

Day 13
11:01 PM ET.

Today was a long production day in Boston and we spent lots of time working on the CT show and booking guests for the next leg of the tour in Ohio.

It was really great to be back in Boston. This city feels like home in a lot of ways and I miss it very much. I got to walk around Northeastern’s campus and reminisce about a simpler time. Ah, we were so young and carefree in the days when our country wasn’t all screwed-up.

It’s getting on 11:00 PM and we are going to shove off early tomorrow morning. Next stop OHIO where we’re going to getting really dirty in the grassroots. I’ve been looking forward to this leg of the trip because it’s all happening in the mid-west and there’s really no more important state in the country than Ohio.

We’ve already interviewed candidate for Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and I hope we get to see her again. She is really tremendous and will be a fair and competent Secretary of State.

I hope that folks are enjoying reading about the trip on the website. We’d all love it if you could hit us with some comments so we know that there are people out there listening to the episodes and getting excited about the elections in only 37 days.

Ok, that’s all for now. Going to brush my teeth and go to bed in a bit. Have a great week and follow us tomorrow as we take our longest drive yet to Ohio.

Easy Like A Sunday Morning

Day 13
10:10 AM ET.

Okay, we’re back. Yesterday the DoubleSpeakers took a much needed day off in Boston. We sat around, watched TV and vegged out on the couch. We have a big week coming up and we wanted to make sure we’re ready for it - hence the much needed down time.

Last night we went to see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Wow. What a show. For those of you who haven’t seen Grace, she’s an organ/piano/guitar player out of Vermont and she kicks ass. She has an amazing band who play with great energy. Last night they were playing their last show before a hiatus to go back into the studio and record. They took the stage at around 10:30PM and played until 1:00AM. Grace Potter was featured on Episode 3 of DoubleSpeak - if she comes to a town near you, check her out.

More Grace Potter

We’ll be watching the Sherrod Brown - Mike DeWine debate on Meet the Press this morning and then we’ll work all day on production and preparation for this upcoming week. Tomorrow we head out early in the morning en route to Cleveland, OH. We’ll do a quick afternoon stop in Syracuse, NY to talk with Dan Maffei, who is running for Congress. I’ve heard great things about him, so I booked an interview with Dan on our way to OH. Also, as Josh keeps reminding us, we’re booking it (in a safe way - don’t worry mom) to OH so we can make the 8:30PM Monday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles. I don’t have to tell you who this online radio team roots for: Go Birds!

VERY IMPORTANT: If you would like to receive email updates and episode alerts from DoubleSpeak, please re-enter your email on the front page of our site. We had a little issue the other night and some names were lost. Again, even if you were signed up and have been getting emails, please re-enter your email now. Thanks for your understand. I can assure you, this will not happen again.

Happy Sunday, y’all.

Let’s Have A Tea Party

Day 10
9:44 PM ET.

Still in Boston on this beautiful New England night. I broke out the fleece for the first time last night as it’s already chilly up here in the Commonwealth.

Today was a long day- we were up at 6:00 AM to meet State Senator Ed Augustus at the Statehouse for an interview. Ed’s a good guy and gave us some insight into the political landscape here in Massachusetts. He also gave us an insiders perspective on the recent healthcare bill that was passed in the Statehouse to cover all Massachusetts residents.

After the interview, we had some breakfast in the Boston Common and then came back to Arty’s house to work. I took a little nap (well, 1.5 hours) as we didn’t get to bed until way too late last night.

We are all preparing for another big day tomorrow- three interviews and we’ll try to finish the Connecticut show.

With Deval Patrick

The Triumphant Return!

Day 9
12:08 PM ET.

Goodbye Rhode Island. We got lost and missed our interview with Democratic Senate nominee Sheldon Whitehouse. However, we chased him across town to Brown University and got a great interview with him in a social room in one of the dorms.

We’re now in Boston! My brother and I went to school here and haven’t been back to Beantown in a while. We have all sorts of craziness happening over the next three days.

We’ll interview Deval Patrick, Michael Dukakis, Jeanne Shaheen, Ed Augustus and many more.

Right now, I’m sitting outside of Arty’s house, waiting for him to get home from work so we can unpack the DoubleSpeak van. Arty is a good friend from Northeastern University who still lives up here in Jamaica Plains. Arty does some technical work on the DoubleSpeak website and he hosts our website on his server. Maybe I can talk him into guest posting on the blog.

The next DoubleSpeak episode will be up in a few hours. Stay tuned!
