It looks like Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle may yet fend off Republican Governor Mark Green in November. A recent independent poll by Rasmussen shows Doyle up by a 49%-41% margin.
Mark Green’s first ad was undeniably cute, and may even be effective. Yet the ad was purely defensive, and taking beaming pride in one’s own lawn-mowing abilities isn’t a great rationale for being a state’s chief executive. Jim Doyle may not be the most popular governor in America, but Mark Green will need to run a more clearly-defined campaign to convince America’s Dairyland to get rid of Doyle.
So far in the “Matthew Slutsky 2006 Ad Watch Competition” Governor Jim Doyle of Wisconsin is in the lead. His ad entitled “Six Times” is in my opinion the best Democratic ad of the cycle so far. I especially like the ending when he proclaims:
“Mark Green is too extreme to be Governor.”
Now, Mark Green is firing back. And, I must say it’s a clever ad.
I believe most of this footage is taken directly from a 15 minute video that was produced for the New York State Democratic Convention a few months back.
Lieutenant Commander in the United States Naval Reserve, Middle Eastern intelligence and counterterrorism expert, and Penn State professor Chris Carney (D) is running against batsh*t crazy GOP incumbent Don Sherwood in the Pennsylvania 10th District. You may remember Sherwood from when DC police responded to him choking his 29-year-old mistress. Yeah, that guy.
Carney is first on the air in the 10th with this simple and positive ad emphasizing his military service:
What, specifically, is your plan to end the war in Iraq in a way that “brings stability to the Middle East”? How long will this take? What types of troops will be involved? Does your plan for ending the war have specific timetables attached or is it George W. Bush’s policy of we’ll wait and see?
You’ve served in the United States Senate for 18 years. During that time, nothing you have done has ended the partisan bickering that you claim is ruining Washington. How, specifically, would you approach this and why would it be more effective than it’s been for the past 18 years.
Which Muppet did Jim Henson model your face after?
