On The Road Again…

Hello primary junkies!

It may have seemed like DoubleSpeak was inactive over the past few months but behind the scenes we’ve been quite busy. In fact, this morning the DoubleSpeak van rolled up to my house with a boatload of equipment and as I type we’re cruising up the NJ Turnpike on our way to Manchester, NH. That’s right, we’re on the road again.

This time we’re joined by a close friend and talented filmmaker, Cameron Hickey. Cameron is going to be shooting photos and video as well as adding his own voice to the mix. You can see some of his previous work at Pattern Films.

We’ve also partnered with the Huffington Post to produce content for their Off The Bus project. Pretty exciting stuff.

So get ready for a very hectic week. More to come soon…

It’s A Good Election

I had a bunch of individual posts cued up for every winning DoubleSpeak candidate, but since most of them are winning I’ll just sum it up now.

At 1:22 AM Eastern Time, Nancy Pelosi will be the next Speaker of the House with a pickup of at least 23 seats (with more pouring in literally every minute) and the Senate is looking tied at worse. We’re watching MSNBC at the bar and the Sec’ of State sites from Virginia and Missouri.

We’re going strong…hope y’all are too.

Active Democracy

Day 50
6:08 PM ET.

The DoubleSpeak team spent the afternoon volunteering for PA-6 candidate Lois Murphy. We went into the campaign office and said what every staffer wants to hear on Election Day, “We will do anything you need!”

We had a great time doing visibility on Montgomery Avenue (next to Wawa) in Lower Merion, PA and the response from motorists was good. We got some middle fingers but all those people were in Mercedes and BMW’s so it’s all good.

Call Everyone You Know

Day 50
12:06 PM ET.

Remember, it’s not enough for you to vote alone. You should spend an hour today calling everyone you know all around the country and urging them to get out and vote. Leave work early today (if you need me to talk to your boss I will) and go to your local polling location to hold a sign for your candidate.

This is it, America. We have one shot to get it right.

Wonderful Wheeling

Day 48
11:14 AM CT.

The American interstates are a remarkable phenomena. They make getting nearly anywhere in the US easy, accessible, and frankly, monotonous. But when you’re just trying to get somewhere quick, there’s no reason not to just stay on I-70 E the whole to Pennsylvania.

Go Claire

Our days seem to be consumed with driving this stretch of road while poll watching and eating at its many fine eateries. Just in the past two nights we’ve enjoyed the fine dining at the Timberline Steakhouse in Independence, Missouri and last night the local Applebee’s in Greenfield, Indiana. Both good meals, but at this point, every thing I put in my body seems to taste the same. It’s exciting to know I’ll be eating good home cookin’ in not too long.

We just listened to today’s Meet The Press with Rahm Emanuel and Chuck Schumer “debating” Tom Reynolds and Liddy Dole. Not much new to learn except virtually every Senate race is tied and Tom Reynolds is an idiot.

Battleground Gas Prices

Day 47
2:00 PM CT.

Throughout this trip, we have seen the gas prices jump all over the map. They started high on the East Coast and have come down significantly in states that have tight races in 2006. Surprise, surprise, the GOP is playing politics with America’s gas prices.

Right now, we’re driving through Missouri and have noticed that the prices have dropped big time! Why? Sen. Jim Talent vs. Claire McCaskill.

Now That's Cheap Gas

A message to the GOP: if you can manipulate the price of gas in the battleground states, why don’t you help the rest of the country? Just an idea.
