Chet Culver has served as Iowa’s Secretary of State since 1998. He is the son of former US Senator John Culver, who is still a popular figure in Iowa politics.
Culver survived a tough primary against former director of the Iowa Department of Economic Development Mike Blouin and seven term State Representative Ed Fallon. Following the primary, the Iowa Democratic Party closed its ranks and now the entire party is campaigning in support of Chet Culver and his running mate, Secretary of Agriculture Patty Judge.
Culver is a former teacher and high school football coach. On the stump, he reminds voters that if elected, he will be the only Governor serving who has had actual classroom experience in the past twenty years.
Culver will face U.S. Rep. Jim Nussle on the November 7th general election.

Danny Homan serves as President of AFSCME Iowa Council 61. Homan served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1973. He began his career as a Residential Advisor with the Iowa Department of Corrections and joined their union in 1984. Homan served as a Union Representative from 1988 to 2005. He currently serves as Union Co-Chair of the Grievance Resolution Improvement Process (GRIP).

Mike Stark is a Democratic activist and former US Marine who is currently attending law school and the University of Virginia. Stark was assaulted by men working with Sen. George Allen’s (R-VA) Senate campaign after he asked a question to the Senator following a campaign appearance in Virginia.
