The Racist GOP

These old…washed up…racist GOP hacks should just go away. If this is their new attack…I say…

Bring on Sen. Barack Obama!

Durbin Hearts Obama

I am feeling a little weird about Sen. Dick Durbin’s insistence that Obama runs in ‘08. Does he want a cabinet appointment? Is he tired of being overshadowed by the Junior Senator from Illinois? Does he just want to be the key supporter of Obama’s?

I was just on DickDurbin.com which I peruse everyday at about this time and found this petition urging Obama to run.

Clearly this is a planned strategy- there’s just no way Obama would allow Durbin to push this if it wasn’t decided that he was in the 2008 Presidential race.

Just strange.

As many of you may know, I’m a huge Barack Obama fan. I’ve known Barack since he was first elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996, and I’m impressed by what he has accomplished in his relatively short political career. I’m also proud to call him my friend.

Not only does Senator Obama do a wonderful job representing the people of Illinois, in just a few short years he has proven himself to be an incredibly inspirational national leader. From his memorable and unifying speech at the Democratic National Convention to his new book The Audacity of Hope, Barack has shown that he has the best interests of all Americans at heart.

That is why I want to see Barack run for President in 2008. I believe that he is the right man to lead our country at a time of such turmoil around the globe, bringing Americans together at a time in our nation’s history when we need unity more than ever.

Barack has said publicly that he is considering a run, and part of his consideration will doubtlessly include measuring the level of his support from Democrats across the country. So let’s show him how strong that support is.

A Shameful Man

Senator Bill Frist was a shameful man and will go down in history as a failed Majority Leader. Take a look at Bill Frist’s most shameful moment in elected office. Go back to dissecting cats, Mr. Frist.

Webb Comes Out Swinging

Jim Webb is coming out of the gate swinging. I’m really enjoying watching him and I think he’s going to be a great Senator.

Read this article from the WaPo which provides more details about the context of the quote I posted above. I hope that Jim Webb can be a leading voice to end the war in Iraq now and bring the troops home over the next couple months.

From the WaPo:

“I’m not particularly interested in having a picture of me and George W. Bush on my wall,” Webb said in an interview yesterday in which he confirmed the exchange between him and Bush. “No offense to the institution of the presidency, and I’m certainly looking forward to working with him and his administration. [But] leaders do some symbolic things to try to convey who they are and what the message is.”

In the days after the election, Webb’s Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill went out of their way to make nice with Bush and be seen by his side. House Speaker-elect Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sat down for a lunch and photo opportunity with Bush, as did Democratic leaders in the Senate.

Not Webb, who said he tried to avoid a confrontation with Bush at the White House reception but did not shy away from one when the president approached.

The White House declined to discuss the encounter. “As a general matter, we do not comment on private receptions hosted by the president at the White House,” said White House spokeswoman Dana M. Perino.

Webb said he has “strong ideas,” but he also insisted that — as a former Marine in Vietnam — he knows how to work in a place such as the Senate, where being part of a team is important.

Breaking News From Columbus, OH

where it will be announced shortly that the race for Congress in the OH-15 between Mary Jo Kilroy (D-OH) and Deborah Pryce (R-OH) will be thrown into an automatic recount. This recount is mandated by Ohio law and any claims by Pryce of victory are both premature and false. As it stands, there is a 1,054 differential, or less than .05% in votes between the two candidates. There have been allegations of human error in the original count. Overseeing this recount will be Ohio’s Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell. This is a very bad thing. More on this important race later. Update: Columbus Dispatch has the story.

Longer Than WWII

In World War II, America had a defined enemy. In World War II, America was on a war-footing and everyone rallied around the cause of freedom. In World War II, we had leaders who were up to the task.

Now, the conflict in Iraq has lasted longer than the second Great War. America has no plan for victory and its leaders are not up for the challenge. We need to bring our brave troops home today!

The Associated Press:

The war in Iraq has now lasted longer than the U.S. involvement in the war that President Bush’s father fought in, World War II.

As of Sunday, the conflict in Iraq has raged for three years and just over eight months.

Only the Vietnam War (eight years, five months), the Revolutionary War (six years, nine months), and the Civil War (four years), have engaged America longer.

Fighting in Afghanistan, which may or may not be a full-fledged war depending on who is keeping track, has gone on for five years, one month. It continues as the ousted Taliban resurges and the central government is challenged.

Bush says he still is undecided whether to start bringing U.S. troops home from Iraq or add to the 140,000 there now.

Thankful

We here at DoubleSpeak hope that everyone has a really great Thanksgiving! We’ve been getting back to “real life” in our respective homes and have been a bit delinquent in posting on the site but promise to pick things up after the holiday this week.

We are thankful for you, our listeners, and for all of the support you’ve given us.

And of course, we’re thankful that his term is almost over.
