Larry Sabato, who is one of the most respected political observers and professors in Virginia has confirmed that when he was a student with Sen. George Allen (R-VA) in the 1970’s, he heard Sen. Allen use a racial slur to refer to blacks. George Allen has repeatedly denied that he has ever used the “N” word.
George Allen is a liar, a bigot and a racist. He is going to go down for this. Vote Jim Webb.
I must say, Lt. Gov Michael Steele has had some clever ads. Most recently, he’s blanketing the airwaves with his “puppy” ad.
Well, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) slapped him down today with a great response ad. I am not sure on the size of the ad buy, but let’s hope this is being seen all over Maryland.
This first entry today won’t be long because we’re finishing up some work here in Cheshire, CT and then driving back to New Haven for some interviews.
Later this afternoon we’re driving due north to Rhode Island, home of one of the most closely watched Senate races in America between embattled Republican Lincoln Chaffee and Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse.
We had a great night sleep, some tasty (healthy) food and we’re all feeling good.
Tonight, more writing and producing!
Keep an eye out for our next episode with Joe Sestak (PA-07) and Lois Murphy (PA-06) - the episode should be up within the hour.
I haven’t blogged much in the past day or two as I’ve been deeply immersed in the getting the new website up. We’ve still got more features to go as well as some new graphics and layout, but I’m pretty happy with what we’ve done so far. For all you Safari users, I know there’s a bug with the layout of the Recent Episodes and I’m working on it. I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank Dylan Kuhn for his wonderful GeoMashup plugin that makes this whole thing possible. Hopefully I didn’t destroy too much in hacking it to work on our site.
We just did a good interview with CT State Democratic Party Chair Nancy DiNardo. She gave us a good outline of the state of Connecticut politics that will add some color to our interviews with Dianne Farrell (running in the CT 4th) and as-of-yet-undetermined member of Team Lamont. Here are the boys with Nancy. Sadly I forgot to take photos at Farrell’s office as I was too busy with the video camera. PoliticsTV should be getting their first tape tomorrow.
Now a night of work and taking advantage of the hospitality of friends of friends. Expect to hear our second PA episode later tonight.
The DoubleSpeak van rolls on and we’re slowlyh creeping towards New England. We just did an interview with Diane Farrell who’s running against Chris Shays in CT-04. She seems very genuine and down to earth.
Bush was in her district today raising money for Connecticut Republicans so it was a good day for us to be there. She did a press conference which we attended and then we did a brief pull-aside after she answered questions from the media.
We’re headed to New Haven now to interview Nancy DiNardo, Chairwoman for the CT Dems. We are sort of in limbo at the moment because we haven’t heard back from her on an exact location. Hope we don’t get screwed…
Lots of BMWs and Mercedes on the road…ah, Connecticut.
TPMmuckraker just reported that the conservative backed and funded Green Party PA Senate candidate, Carl Romanelli is off the ballot. Ruling that too many of Romanelli’s signatures for his spot on the ballot were invalid, the judge has for all intents and purposes, ended this right wing distraction in Pennyslvania.
That strikes a deadly blow to Pennsylvania Republicans’ gambit to draw votes away from Democrat Bob Casey by fielding a Green candidate. As we reported earlier, all of Romanelli’s support was from conservative donors, and Sen. Rick Santorum’s (R-PA) volunteers worked hard gathering signatures to get Romanelli on the ballot. The Santorum campaign has admitted steering help toward the Romanelli campaign.
After Romanelli gathered almost 100,000 signatures to qualify, Democrats challenged the signatures’ validity. A court fight followed, and now a judge has found that the Greens are short almost 9,000 valid signatures from the 67,000 required by law.
“Three former college football teammates of Sen. George Allen say that the Virginia Republican repeatedly used an inflammatory racial epithet and demonstrated racist attitudes toward blacks during the early 1970s.”
Josh did a GREAT job on the website and as you can see we now have a map tracking our every move! It’s cool, now you can watch us in real-time as the minivan rolls up the coast.
We are still trying to finalize our interview plans for tomorrow. As it stands, we have a tentative interview with Diane Farrell who is running against Chris Shays in Connecticut. This is a marquee race and we’re going to lean-in to Diane’s staff to get this interview at some point tomorrow.
We’re also going to interview Nancy DiNardo who is the Chairwoman for the Democratic Party in Connecticut. She should be an interesting interview as things in Connecticut are crazy right now in light of the Lieberman defeat.
Thank you very much to the great people we’ve seen on this leg of the journey. It’s been a fun stop and we’ll miss New York.
