The Bush Administration Is Blind

and so is Peter Wallsten of the Los Angeles Times. This morning at a press conference Bush had an exchange with the reporter and jokingly asked him about the sunglasses he was wearing. Think Progress has the video. This is a must see!

I know Bush’s teasing of a blind reporter has been making the rounds through the blogs over the last couple of days. I, myself, am certainly guilty of having posted this story on a few comment boards. However, I will give credit where it is due. Bush did follow-up immediately with a phone call to Wallsten to offer an apology for his insensitivity, claiming he wasn’t aware that the reporter was blind.

“He said, `I needle you guys out of affection,’” Wallsten said. “I said, ‘I understand that, but I don’t want you to treat me any differently because of this.’”

Wallsten said the president said he would not treat him differently, so Wallsten encouraged him to “needle away.”

“He said, `I will. Next time I’ll just use a different needle,’” Wallsten said.

Wallsten said he thought that was a pretty good line. And his only complaint is that the president didn’t answer his question at the news conference.

So, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but give the guy a break. It was an embarrassing slip and he made a sincere effort to apologize for it in a timely fashion. If you want to complain about anything, you can ask why Bush has yet to apologize for the much greater sin of mass murder in an elective and unnecessary war, or you can join Wallsten in wondering why Bush never answered the question.

Give the guy a break you say? Give ME a break. “I needle you guys out of affection,” Bush reportedly said to Wallsten. But like everything else Bush says, that’s a lie.

He “needles” reporters, gives them silly nicknames, asks insensitive questions, and choreographs his so-called press conferences for one reason and one reason only: To disarm the media and keep them from asking tough questions.

And it’s worked for six years. Eric Boehlert catalogues the phenomenon quite well in his new book “Lapdogs.”

It seems innocent at first that it appears that no offense was taken by the reporter when you read the script. But when you view the video and analyse the gestures taking place, you soon understand this: Bush is running America. America is dumber(so to speak) than Bush for they elected him majority blah. Bush is really stirring some chaotic pots in the world and if this is his picture of a rosey future then I slit my wrists now. Corporate activities, esp the Brits and the US, are ruling the world with an iron fist. This needs to change inversely proportional to the status quo so people can live in prosperity. Unlikely an event will happen in our lifetime because of the greed and total blatant disrespect for human life of others, let alone themselves. Shame on you America for having successfully budded the seed of England into a land of fear and terror. You only have yourselves to blame.
