Harris is Going…Going…Almost Gone

Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL) is slowly imploding. After declaring her intention to win the Florida senate race by injecting a 10 million dollar inheritance from her recently deceased father, polls now show that she is fading fast.

From Political Wire:

In the Florida U.S. Senate race, a new Strategic Vision (R) poll shows Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) trouncing Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL), 56% to 28%.

NPR Profiles CT Senate Race

This is an interesting report on the Connecticut senate race. As you may know, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) is being challenged (from the left) by businessman Ned Lamont (D). This race is certainly an uphill battle for Lamont – Lieberman is an entrenched politician and he has an expansive fundraising network.

The issues raised in this race will reflect the national debate on Iraq and the GOP agenda, but Lieberman will be forced to answer some tough questions about his party allegiance. Based on this interview, he seems to be getting a little agitated at the line of questioning.

Abramoff gets 5 years, 10 months

in prison for fraud reports MSNBC.com. The sentences were the minimum under the plea agreement for Abramoff and associate Adam Kidan who will stay out of prison momentarily while they “continue cooperating in a Washington corruption investigation….” We’re gonna miss you Jack.

Just Like Photohunt

Can you find the 5 errors in this image of a peaceful “Downtown Baghdad” taken from the campaign website of Howard Kaloogian, a conservative Republican candidate running the CA-50 special election?

Downtownish Baghdad?

It’s not that hard, but if you need help, we’ve got jem6x at Daily Kos, Josh Marshall, Will Bunch, and a very special version prepared by Jesus’ General.

Ahh Republicans…is there anything they won’t do?

More Bushification

Remember Ari Melber’s piece, “The Bushification of John McCain” from Episode 2?

Looks like the supposed maverick is continuing down the wingnut path. Today comes the news that Senator McCain will be giving the commencement address at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University.

American military hero and Arizona Sen. John McCain will deliver the Commencement message at Liberty University on May 13, at 9:30 a.m., in the Liberty University Vines Center. In addition, renowned Christian conservative leader Gary Bauer will speak during the University’s baccalaureate service on May 12, at 7:00 p.m., in the main sanctuary of the Thomas Road Baptist Church.

While Sen. McCain and Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell have had their share of political differences through the years, the two men share a common respect for each other and have become good friends in their efforts to preserve what they see as common values. This will mark his first ever appearance at Liberty University.

Jerry Falwell is the man who said “If you’re not a born-again Christian, you’re a failure as a human being.” Is that one of Senator McCain’s values?
